Trident Launches Breezemark UV Ink Jet Printing Solution For Flexible Packaging Materials

New Technology Provides Solvent-Free Digital Print with Low Cure Energy and Heat Output

Brookfield, CT. (April 5, 2004) – Trident® announces the launch of BreezeMarkTM UV, a new UV-curable ink jet printing solution capable of providing highly durable solvent-free print on flexible packaging materials. The BreezeMark UV Ink Jet printing solution consists of BreezeMark UV Ink and a Trident UltraJet II or 768Jet printhead. The printing solution features low energy curing and up to 10cm (4") tall environmentally friendly print.

BreezeMark UV Ink uses only 1/3 the cure power of traditional UV cured ink jet systems, making it ideal for flexographic web and plastic sheet printing on a wide variety of heat-sensitive materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene, Mylar, semi-gloss label stock, Tyvek and vinyl.

BreezeMark UV Ink provides a safe and environmentally friendly alternative to MEK or more aggressive solvent-based inks. By eliminating the need for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), BreezeMark UV provides safe and regulation friendly print for food, snack, confection, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and medical device flexible packaging applications.

Trident's BreezeMark UV Ink will be compatible with both the Trident UltraJet II 192/32 and 768Jet industrial printheads. The UltraJet II printhead is capable of printing up to four lines of UV-cured print at high speeds with low cure energy and low heat output. The cross-linking chemistry of BreezeMark UV Ink allows it to cure in less than 1/50th of a second into sturdy, rub resistant print.

The Trident 768Jet printhead prints images up to 4 inches tall. The ability to produce tall, attention-grabbing graphics directly onto semi and non-porous materials enhances the branding power and personalization potential of flexible packaging. The tall image height also enables 2-up or 4-up printing onto coupons or labels.

The 4-inch print height of the Trident 768Jet printhead adds flexibility to printing operations. Logos and graphics can be combined with over 30 lines of text. This feature is ideal for listing ingredients or for highlighting product details in various languages.

The ability of the UltraJet II and 768Jet printheads to print variable information on-demand also adds flexibility to factory floors. Digital, variable information printing capability makes the BreezeMark UV printing solution a cost-effective time-saving alternative to mask printing, roller and pad printers.

"The Trident BreezeMark UV printing solution is a cost-effective alternative to binary ink jet arrays, multiple CIJ and labels," said Steve Liker, Director of Marketing at Trident. "The low-curing energy and heat of the BreezeMark UV solution also makes it a cost-effective alternative to other UV ink jet systems because durable print is produced with less powerful and therefore less expensive and safer UV lamps."
