Spray-Drying R&D Firm Adds 20,000-Gallon Silo

Spray-Drying R&D Firm Adds 20,000-Gallon Silo

American Custom Drying Co., (ACD) Burlington, NJ, has announced the addition of a food-and-dairy-grade, sanitary storage silo to its custom research development and processing plant. In doing so, the company has enhanced its ability to serve food and beverage ingredient suppliers, who in turn must provide ever-more functional ingredients to their customers. Specifically, ACD said Monday that it expanded its liquid storage capacity to 520,000 gallons with the addition of a 20,000-gallon food grade, AAA finish, agitated, cooled or heated storage silo.

The new silo was necessary "to meet the increasing demand for spray drying food-type products," said Svend Keis Hansen, vice president of the Product Development Div., in a Monday announcement. He added that ACD just completed the installation of a 100 HP, 1750 GPH, 5000 PSI high-pressure pump or homogenizer "to cope with increased spray dryer capacity demands."

The contract R&D firm also has installed a cooling/heating air conditioning system for its 6000 lb/per hour product conveying system for of ACD's large production spray dryers. The upgrade enables ACD to "cool down the products before bagging off" as well as handle hygroscopic products.

ACD is privately-owned and has been providing custom spray-drying services for more than 30 years. The company is KEMA ISO 9002 Certified for the Production of Spray Dried Products for the Chemical Industry and has kosher certification for food products.
