Simply Organic Offers First Fair Trade Certified Baking Mixes

Norway, IA - Simply Organic, the all-organic brand from Frontier Natural Products Co-op has introduced the first line of baking mixes to feature Fair Trade Certified ingredients. Simply Organic Baking Mixes offer nontraditional flavor combinations that feature Simply Organic spices and seasonings in delicious versions of Banana Bread, Carrot Cake, Chai Spice Scone, and Cocoa Biscotti. Preparation requires just two or three additional ingredients, and the mixes can be ready for the oven in about 10 minutes.

"Organic baking items are growing at twice the rate of conventional baking mixes, and a recent survey showed almost a third of those surveyed would like to see more organic bakery items available," says Kory Kazimour, the Simply Organic senior brand manager. "Our baking mixes address this demand with unique recipes that expertly utilize high quality spices and seasonings such as our signature cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and cloves, maple granules and allspice. We have also used Fair Trade Certified cocoa and sugar to create tasty treats that you can feel totally good about."

Kazimour says nutrition was a concern when developing the mixes as well. They are made without any wheat or barley, using brown rice flour instead. No oil is required with any mix -- a challenge, Kazimour notes, that her product development team was able to meet without compromising taste. Directions for butter-free alternatives are provided on the packages. "Another feature we're pleased with," says Kazimour, "is that the mixes are shelf stable and can be used up to eighteen months after date of manufacture." Each of the mixes has a natural twist that provides intriguing new flavor combinations -- Banana Bread combines cinnamon with allspice and wholesome brown rice flour for a rich, fruity flavor; Carrot Cake is a classic updated with robust maple granules and brown rice flour; Chai Spice Scone is an old-world tradition that's given a spicy new attitude with cardamom, black pepper, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon; and Cocoa Biscotti provides a uniquely flavored combination of brown rice flour and rich Fair Trade Certified cocoa.
