Next Instruments Launches New SeedCount SC5 Image Analyser At Pittcon 2011

Next Instruments licensed SeedCount image analysis systems in 2009. At Pittcon 2011 (held in Atlanta, Ga) Next Instruments launched the new SeedCount SC5 Image Analyser.

The SC5 includes both reflectance and transmittance imaging of seeds, grains, beans, pellets and granules. SeedCount was originally designed for measuring the physical characteristics of grains such as wheat, barley, rice and corn. Over the last two years Next Instruments has upgraded the original image analysis software to include oats, lentils, coffee beans and, more recently, plastic pellets.

The SC5 further expands the SeedCount capability by collecting transmission images through seeds or pellets to detect internal flaws as well as measuring other physical parameters including length, width, breadth, colour, broken seeds, cracks and defects.

As well upgrading the hardware, the SC5 includes the latest software release. The new software includes the ability to personalise a report and print directly to a laser or ink jet printer. Other features include improved measurement algorithms for blackpoint and blacktip in wheat and barley, chalk in rice, vitreousness in durum, weathering of lupins and roasting colour of coffee beans.
