New Spiral Freezers Optimize Hygiene, Increase Capacity

Chicago, IL - FMC FoodTech has optimized hygiene capabilities and
increased line capacity with the new GYRoCOMPACT M10 and M10 Twin Stack spiral freezer models. The self-stacking spiral freezers also offer more durable components and consume less power, reducing maintenance and utility costs for food processors.
The M10 freezer has a 42-inch (106-centimeter) wide belt and features a third-generation FRIGoDRIVE M drive system that increases processing capacity by 30 percent. This translates to about 16,000 pounds of fully cooked chicken per hour.
An open, easily cleanable and accessible design optimizes sanitation standards and decreases system downtime for cleaning and maintenance. This feature reduces contamination and extends the life of the equipment by preventing waste buildup and simplifying the cleaning process.
"All hollow pipes and tubes were eliminated on structural components, and horizontal surfaces are sloped, making the M10 the most hygienic and easy-to-clean equipment in the marketplace," says Ingmar Pahlsson, freezer product line manager for FMC FoodTech.
The M10 freezer was engineered to enhance the reliability, flexibility and performance of freezing applications, contributing to a lower total cost of ownership. Driving power is cut by 25 percent compared with low-tension systems, so even with more throughput capabilities and faster line speeds, the M10 freezer uses less energy to operate, translating to lower utility charges. The drive system operates completely on rolling friction instead of the rolling and sliding friction of conventional low-tension spirals, so less lubrication is required.
In addition, faster delivery and installation times for standard size GYRoCOMPACT M10 models are available to North American food processors.
Demands for increased capacity, particularly in the European bakery market and North American ready meal market, led to the development of the M10 Twin Stack spiral freezer, which combines two spiral stacks in a single system to increase capacity by up to 100 percent. For example, ready meal capacity can now increase from 240 trays per minute in a single stack freezer to 360 trays per minute or 14,200 pounds per hour in the Twin Stack. Bakery lines can move more than 64,700 croissants, or up to 8,800 pounds of product, per hour with the Twin Stack.
