Market Issues Alert on Undeclared Eggs

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. (Boston) is recalling Stop & Shop brand Lactose Free (chocolate and yellow): 1/4 sheet and 8" round single and double layer cakes from its in-store bake shop, because the product contains eggs which were not declared on the label. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The cakes were sold at Stop & Shop Bake Shops throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and Rhode Island.

The company was notified of the potential allergy alert through a customer inquiry involving a nine year old boy. It initiated the recall after discovering that the product containing eggs was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of the eggs.
