Keebler Buys Girl Scout Cookie Co.

Keebler Foods Company (Elmhurst, IL) has reached an agreement to acquire President Baking Company. President is the leading supplier of Girl Scout cookies and counts famous Amos, Plantation, and Murray among its key brands.

"The President acquisition broadens Keebler's strategic position and provides a growth vehicle in the biscuit market," said Amos McMullen, chairman and chief executive of Flowers Industries, Keebler's majority shareholder.

President Baking Co., headquartered in Atlanta, GA, operates eight bakeries thoroughout the country with cookie brands that include Murray, Murray Sugar Free, and Famous Amos. In addition, President also distributes cookie products nationally under other brands and produces private-label cookies and snack cakes.

Keebler is the second largest cookie and cracker manufacturer in the United States. The company markets its products under brands such as Keebler, Cheez-It, Carr's, and Ready Crust.
