A new pita bread from Joseph's Bakery has successfully completed a certification process for a low glycemic food for diabetics at the prestigious Glycemic Research Institute. It is the latest arrival to a growing menu of delicious and health-conscious products offered by the Massachusetts-based company.
Joseph's Bakery High Fiber Plus Pita Bread has joined a shortlist of top-quality food products certified as diabetic friendly by the Glycemic Research Institute after rigorous human in vivo clinical trials. The product had no problems passing all clinical and legal protocols for a low glycemic food for diabetics. The independent board approved tests were carried out at the institute's official trial facility, Glycemic Research Laboratories, which is an internationally accredited certifying agent (IACA), approved by the governments of the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
After passing clinical and legal protocols, GRI-certified products are qualified to display official certification marks on labels, packaging and information brochures and include specific, evidence-backed statements about their health-related qualities. The testing procedure is based on FDA CFR21 Guidelines.
The results returned by the clinical trials showed that in the most common form of diabetes, type 2, Joseph's Bakery High Fiber Plus Pita Bread qualifies as certified diabetic friendly thanks to achieving a glycemic index of 46 and a glycemic load of 6.
