FDA Updates Codex References

The FDA is amending regulations in 21 CFR Parts 172, 173, and 184 that incorporate by reference analytical methods in the Food Chemicals Codex 3rd edition, by updating these references to the 4th edition. In addition, the agency is concomitantly updating the incorporation by reference for specifications in six regulations that incorporate by reference specification monographs in the Food Chemicals Codex 3rd edition, by updating these references to the 4th edition. This action is being taken to meet the requirements for incorporation by reference set forth in 1 CFR part 51.

The regulation is effective Jan. 12, 1999. The Director of the Office of the Federal Register approves the incorporation by reference in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 552(a) and 1 CFR part 51 of certain publications listed in 172.345(b), 172.665(d)(2), 172.723(b)(3), 173.310(c), 184.1007(b)(1), (b)(6), and (b)(7), 184.1257(b) and (b)(1), 184.1259(b)(3), 184.1282(b), 184.1293(b), 184.1530(b), 184.1699(b), 184.1979(b)(1) and (b)(2), 184.1979a(b)(1) and (b)(2), 184.1979b(b)(1) and (b)(2), and 184.1979c(b)(1) and (b)(2) (21 CFR 172.345(b), 172.665(d)(2), 172.723(b)(3), 173.310(c), 184.1007(b)(1), (b)(6), and (b)(7), 184.1257(b) and (b)(1), 184.1259(b)(3), 184.1282(b), 184.1293(b), 184.1530(b), 184.1699(b), 184.1979(b)(1) and (b)(2), 184.1979a(b)(1) and (b)(2), 184.1979b(b)(1) and (b)(2), and 184.1979c(b)(1) and (b)(2)).
