drinktec 2009, the World Fair for Beverage and Liquid Food Technology, is not just the world´s biggest show of technology for the sector, it is also a key forum for science and research, for exchanging news and views and for networking. Experts from all over the world will be debating the future of the beverages industry in a range of different events. There will be something of interest for every single one of the 70,000 visitors expected to come to the New Munich Trade Fair Centre between 14 and 19 September. Of that you can be sure.
Forums in Hall B1
At the heart of the supporting programme are two forums, both of them situated right in
the middle of the action at the trade fair, in Hall B1. Independent experts from all over
the world will be giving their lectures in these forums.
The lectures are organised into blocks on the following themes:

Manfred Schmidt from the Institute for Brand Technology, Geneva, 'Implementing price rises in the market', 17 September Themes such as 'Developing, positioning and defending brands', targeted in particular at SMEs (18 September) and

Lecture series on the subject of milk / Dairy Technology Awards In addition to the presentations put on by the exhibitors, drinktec 2009´s supporting programme will feature a number of lectures on the latest developments in the field of liquid dairy products.
A separate lecture block is being dedicated to the subject for the milk industry, under the title 'The importance of dairy beverages', on 16 and 17 September.
Dr Lynn Moore from the Boston University School of Medicine, will be providing evidence of how important the consumption of milk products is from birth onwards for later health.
Donna Berry from the trade journal Dairy Foods Magazine (also USA) is stressing the importance of marketing milk as an attractive dairy beverage, not as a 'boring' food, if it is to withstand the competition from new-style beverages.
Dr Michael Erdl from Royal Friesland Campina is talking about the importance of school milk projects and giving examples of successful implementation.
Lothar Krause from Döhler will be rounding off the programme by lecturing on how to collect objective information on customer wishes and then produce tailor-made recipes to fit those requirements.
Another highlight for all dairy specialists is the presentation of the first Dairy Technology Award on 17 September at drinktec. Organised by trade publishers Bücker Fachverlag, VIM (dairy engineers´ association – Verein der Ingenieure für Milchwirtschaft) and Messe München, the award honours successful implementation of technical innovations in the European dairy and foodstuffs industry.
Forum on innovative sweetening concepts In cooperation with publishers Dr. Harnisch Verlag of Nuremberg, drinktec is putting on a forum on the subject of 'Innovative sweetening concepts'. In Hall B1 leading producers (among them Beneo-Palatinit, Nutrinova, Tate &Lyle) will be showcasing all kinds of sweetening agents, in particular sugar, sugar substitutes and sweeteners.
Alongside the information presented by the individual manufacturers, the forum aims to present the trade visitors with a comprehensive and independent review of the available sweetening agents, their properties and applications in beverages.
International Fruit World: From the tree to the bottle Publishers confructa medien, in cooperation with drinktec is organising the 'International Fruit World' (IFW) congress on the subject of liquid fruit and fruit processing. The event is being held under the motto of 'From the Tree to the Bottle'.
Around 200 participants from all over the world are expected to attend the two-day congress which takes place on 15 and 16 September 2009 in the International Congress Centre Munich (ICM).
The congress is divided into different sessions, on: Markets and trends – round table discussion; Product development; Process technology; Packaging; Plant technology; Global crop situation 2009; Sweetening concepts.
One highlight is a panel discussion with high-ranking participants entitled 'Fruit juice – quo vadis?'. Representatives from industry, politics, associations and research will be discussing the challenges facing the fruit juice market for the future. Beverage Innovation Awards 2009 For the first time in 2009, drinktec will be the venue for the presentation of the Beverage Innovation Awards, taking place at a gala dinner on 15 September in the International Congress Centre Munich (ICM). The organiser of this event, to which around 500 guests are expected, is the British trade publisher Zenith International Publishing. Other partners are UNESDA – Union of European Beverages Associations – and WAFG – Wirtschaftsvereinigung Alkoholfreie Getränke e.V.
The awards are being presented in the categories of fruit juice, function, energy, adult, children´s and dairy-based beverages as well as water. Separate awards are to be given to the best innovation in the field of raw materials and additives, for the best newcomer brand or business idea, and for the best marketing campaign.
Recognition will also be given to successful initiatives in environmental protection, ethics, sustainability and health. In addition there are awards for the best packaging solutions.

3rd PET World Congress 2009
The coverage of PET at drinktec 2009 is being rounded off by a world congress on the
subject, which is taking place for the third time. This event brings together experts and
beginners alike, it is an opportunity to find answers to all the key questions relating to
technology and marketing.
All the key steps in the life-cycle of a PET bottle are being presented in four lecture blocks:
Block 1: From the pellet to the pallet – all about PET bottles
Block 2: Beverage Innovation Award 2009 – presentation of winners from the PET area
Block 3: Edible oils – an under-rated market
Block 4: Exciting new products being filled in PET

The 2nd PLA Bottle Conference is taking place for the first time during drinktec 2009. The organiser is the bioplastics MAGAZINE.
