Cargill Foods Introduces Trans Fat-Free Shortenings
The new TransEnd shortenings are available as three different products: all purpose shortening, microwave popcorn shortening, and margarine shortening. "Using TransEnd shortenings, food processors may now be able to offer a product to their customers that says 'trans free' on the food label," said Willie Loh, market development manager for Cargill Specialty Oils.
Trans fatty acids are created when hydrogen is added to an oil to make it solid or semi-solid and thus improve stability and shelf life.
Cargill also offers Clear Valley vegetable oils used in snack foods and in frying. They contain only 7% saturated fat and are very low in trans fat. "TransEnd shortenings and Clear Valley oils are ingredients that food processors can use in a broad spectrum of food products. They provide food processors with the means to create products that support a healthier positioning," added Loh.
Cargill is a leading supplier of food and food ingredient products to food processors, food service, bakery and retail customers. Cargill provides these food products and services under the marketing umbrella "Cargill Foods."
