The series includes the following courses, Bloodborne Pathogens-AIDS Update, Domestic Violence, End of Life-Hospice and Palliative Care, and Reduction of Medical Errors. The courses are delivered in a unique multimedia learning format and are available online or on CD ROM. Credit is immediately available after successfully completing the posttest and survey. After purchasing the courses, participants may review the course for a full year. Accredited by FL BD Nursing which is accepted by most states.
PETech Series The PETech series of continuing education courses are delivered in a unique, interactive, multimedia learning format. The courses offer a convenient way for technologists to learn the fundamentals of PET and earn a total of 8.5 continuing education hours.
Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia This course provides physicians with recent data on Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT)— an important complication of heparin therapy. Content focus includes the pathophysiology of HIT, the principal elements of its clinical and laboratory diagnosis, and its treatment with specific reference to the use of the more recently available direct thrombin inhibitors.
Administering Blood Transfusions This course focuses on the care and administration of blood and blood products to the critically ill patient. It will review the indications for transfusions, the appropriate use of blood and blood products, and the care and monitoring of a patient receiving blood and/or blood products.
Bloodborne Pathogens - AIDS Update The Bloodborne Pathogens-AIDS Update Course discusses epidemiology, common symptoms, transmission and prevention of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The course reviews OSHA regulations on Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and its impact on testing and confidentiality. HIV treatment guidelines and basic action steps for occupational exposure will be discussed. You will earn credit for this program when you have reviewed all frames, completed each activity, received at least a 80% on the final test, and have completed the course evaluation.
Cardiac Electrophysiology for Nuclear Medicine Technology This course is designed to provide nuclear technologists with a comprehensive review of dysrhythmia recognition in order to successfully monitor the patient undergoing testing. The content begins with the key points of cardiac anatomy, physiology, electrophysiology, leads, waveforms, and measurements. The next section focuses on essential ECG rhythms technologists can encounter while monitoring the patient. Each ECG strip presented includes the needed criterion that identifies that rhythm.
Domestic Violence This course is designed to give the health care professional an overview of the definition, statistics, and patterns of domestic violence in America. The learner will understand this phenomenon from the perspective of both the batterer and the victim. They will also identify the physical, emotional, and relational evidence of domestic violence. Finally, they will confront the factors that make caregivers reluctant to intervene in these situations and take action to help the victim.
Dosage Calculation Review Dosage Calculation Review is CEU accredited for the nursing profession and will strengthen the nurses skill in the areas of the calculation of oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous medications. The content will cover dosage calculation for both the pediatric and adult populations. Mathematical skills will be reviewed and practice problems will be included after each module to reinforce the math skills needed to correctly calculate physician ordered dosages.
End of Life - Hospice and Palliative Care The provision of comfort care to the dying is an active, desirable, and important skill - an integral component of nursing care. Symptom assessment and management is a crucial nursing skill when caring for patients at the end of life. Quality end of life care includes multiple dimensions – not only physical, but, psychological, social and spiritual, as well.
Fetal Abdominal Abnormalities Fetal Abdominal Abnormalities will cover the multiple anomalies that can occur in the fetal abdomen. Sonographic descriptions will be provided, and a variety of associated anomalies will be explored. Attention will also be given to laboratory values that may present with specific anomalies. Multiple examples of sonographic images will be presented including some case presentations of complex anomalies.
Improving Patient Satisfaction for Imaging Centers Based on the findings of a leading imaging center, this course will help enhance the imaging technologists ability to effectively communicate with patients in order to satisfy patients needs and expectations. The course focuses on how to best communicate important and relevant information to a diverse patient population that will establish trust with the patient.
Osteoporosis Can Fracture Lives This pharmacist-directed course provides guidelines for recommending appropriate medication for the prevention/treatment of osteoporosis. Risk factors for osteoporosis and appropriate life style behaviors to prevent bone loss will be discussed. Side effects, doses, interactions, and drug monitoring parameters of prescription medications used for osteoporosis will be reviewed.
PET Anatomy and Pathology The PET Anatomy and Pathology course, fifth in a series of seven courses, identifies key anatomic landmarks in sagittal, coronal, and axial planes, describes areas of interest to PET scanning, and describes common pathologic conditions.
PET Clinical Applications PET Clinical Applications, the sixth course in a series of seven, describes preparation of the patient for scanning and the processes involved in acquiring scans. Also included will be the benefits of PET imaging as well as the uses of PET scanning versus other imaging modalities.
PET Instrumentation PET Instrumentation, third in a series of seven courses, describes the main subsystems of a PET scanner and their functionality. Key safety features of a scanner are also identified.
PET Physics PET Physics is the first in a series of seven courses designed for the nuclear medicine technologist interested in PET: positron emissions tomography. Topics to be covered include PET camera physics and how it differs from nuclear camera physics, positron physics, cyclotron physics, tracer production, and radiation safety.
PET Quality Control The PET Quality Control course, fourth in the series of seven courses, describes the process of performing QC procedures and discusses their importance. QC procedures discussed include: singles scans, verification of coincidence timing, blank scans, normalization scans, and 2D and 3D well counters.
PET Radionuclides PET Radionuclides, the second in a series of seven courses, describes the use and handling of radionuclides used in PET imaging. Topics to be covered include: tracer production, different radionuclides and their uses, how radionuclides are metabolized, preparation of the appropriate pharmaceutical dose, and injection of the radionuclide.
PET Software Applications The PET Software Applications course, the final course in a series of seven, describes the different software applications used and the process of acquiring images and processing data. Discussions will also include the use of macros in acquiring images, reformatting transaxial data, and archiving and networking data.
Principles of Doppler Physics Principals of Doppler Physics presents basic Doppler ultrasound, and its role and usefulness in evaluating the circulatory system. Hemodynamics and the factors that determine flow rate and flow patterns in the circulatory system are presented. The Doppler equation will be analyzed, with emphasis on the angle and its impact on accurate velocity calculations.
Reduction of Medical Errors Reduction of Medical Errors is a 2-hour course fulfilling a requirement for a nursing license renewal focusing on patient safety, root cause analysis, and medical error prevention. Discussed will be the importance of replacing a culture of blame with a culture supporting honest reporting, thereby building a successful plan targeting known problems.
Respiratory Syncytial Virus in Children This one-hour animated course, designed for the registered nurse, focuses on the care of the pediatric patient with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). It will review the signs and symptoms associated with RSV infection, and discuss the management of those symptoms in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.
Spiritual Aspects of Nursing Spiritual Aspects of Nursing looks at spiritual needs and spiritual ailments in the context of nursing care. Goals of spiritual care are addressed as well as their relationship to the health and physical recovery of the patient. Also included is a survey of appropriate interventions to ameliorate spiritual discomfort.
Upper Extremity Venous Duplex Examination Upper Extremity Venous Duplex Examination is designed to provide sonographers the information necessary to properly perform an upper extremity venous duplex examination. Participants of this course will learn the venous anatomy of the upper extremity; the hemodynamic characteristics of vessels and veins; as well as signs, symptoms, and risk factors of venous disease. Standard protocol will also be addressed.
